To commemorate the anniversary of the assassination of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., dozens of brave souls gathered
at the foot of the Ben Franklin Bridge in Philadelphia for the 2009 Bridge Walk for Peace. The group
traversed the Bridge at 6:00 in the morning so they could watch the sun rise in renewing their commitment to a new day in continuing work for peace that Dr. King lived, worked and died to achieve. Following the early morning Walk, the group participated in
a neighborhood clean up organized by its partner MLK365
-- a program that pursues service projects year round in honor of Dr. King’s legacy.

The first-ever Bridge Walk for Peace in 2008 was such a memorable milestone for everyone who participated
and had a hand in making it happen and was the largest event commemorating the Anniversary of the Assassination of Dr. Martin
Luther King, Jr., in the City of Philadelphia. But
working for Peace has never been about a one-time event. On
April 4th 2009, dozens of participants traveled across the Ben Franklin Bridge for the early morning
walk watching the sunrise and looking hopefully to the horizon for a day without hurt or harm. Throughout the year, we encourage you to journey across bridges of your own in building peaceful relationships from
broken ones. We look forward to standing together once again on April 4th, 2010. But no matter the hour, we urge you to continue working toward fulfilling the Dream of living in the Beloved Community
where all of us have enough and none of us have too little.
